Thank you to everyone that made MechaCon 2015 a huge success!
We’d like to thank all attendees, staff, volunteers, and participants that made MechaCon 2015 a huge success!
We want to send out our most heartfelt thanks to every single person that was at MechaCon this year. Without all of the wonderful attendees, volunteers, artists, dealers, panelists, staff, and industry supporters, we could not pull together this event that keeps growing year after year and is so near and dear to our hearts. Every single one of you is an important ingredient in the mix that is MechaCon, and we appreciate all of you immensely!
We’d also like to thank you all for your immense generosity again this year. Through our Platinum Pass Raffle, Charity Auction, and various donations received over the weekend, you helped us raise $17,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! We’d also like to thank the incomparable Mr. Jonathan Klein of New Generation Pictures! Without his support, we’d never be able to achieve this level of success!
Meeting Steve Blum and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn was awesome! They were the best! The formal dinner and entertainment were great too. There were a lot of great entries in the cosplay competition Saturday night. My only suggestion would be to include additional awards to cover all divisions. First, second, and maybe third for Novice especially. Again, this would be in addition to the current awards. There were a ton of Novice entries that competed against Intermediate and Advanced for awards. Overall, Mechacon a great event that ran very smoothly.
The guest list was awesome this year!! how could you not enjoy this years mechacon. the nay sayers must have not attended because i was there and it was great. it gets better and better every year! the mechacon staff is the best. you go mechacon!, ill see you next year! ps. the convention is in new orleans off the mighty mississippi, expect it to be hot.
I was really disappointed in the VA guest list this year, honestly. There was only one real big name and two of them didn’t even play anyone I really knew or cared about. I decided that other events were more entertaining than going and getting signatures this year.
Steve Blum showed up though which was pretty awesome. But yeah I agree with you, for the past two cons the VA guest list has been rather meh generally speaking.
Seriously, have you guys never heard of ‘Spring’ or ‘Fall’?
I’ve heard of those! Those are the seasons when everyone is in school and can’t go to New Orleans for a weekend.
“Everyone”.
No, not every one (or even most) of the attendants are little kids.
Also, other cons don’t seem to have a problem holding their events in other seasons. http://animecons.com/events/state.shtml/002800799
Even early June would be better than smack-dab in the middle of the hottest part of the year.
Most large anime conventions occur during the summer months. While not all of MechaCon’s attendees are kids, I would wager that most attendees are high-school age or under. College students also have a rough time traveling to conventions during the semester.
Fall is unpopular on the south coast because of hurricane season. The first Mechacon was actually cut short due to Hurricane Katrina. The heat shouldn’t be such a big factor, since entire convention takes place indoors.
If it’s any consolation, LouisiAnime takes place in March 2016 and Wizard World Comic Con is usually in winter, so if the heat is a problem, you could save your stuffy cosplay for those cons. 🙂
But some “kids” like MYSELF go to Highshool, so I appreciate it being during summer. At least it isn’t held outside. 🙂
There’s no reason to worry about the heat really. The Riverwalk mall is connected to the Hilton which has plenty of food, as well as Harrah’s Casino which is literally right across the street and also has tons of food. Anything else you want to do outside of the convention is your problem alone to be honest, and it’s kind of silly to expect the MechaCon staff to account for all of that. At least that’s how I see it.
WHY? WHY? WHY?
Why do you keep holding Mechacon at the hottest time of the year?
“The Last Party on Earth” What does this mean? What’s happening???
Yeah I’m wondering this as well.
