Japan Fest is a one day only event where you can enjoy everything Japanese from taiko drums, tea ceremony, martial arts to sushi. Please come and join us!
Established in 1994 and brought to you by the Japan Club of New Orleans, Japan Society of New Orleans, Japanese Garden Society, JET Alumni Association, New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Consulate-General of Japan, Japan Fest offers visitors a wide variety of things to see and do in celebration of the Japanese culture.
Previously, this event included Taiko Drum performances by Kaminari Taiko of Houston, Traditional Japanese Dance, Martial Arts Demonstrations including Karate, Kendo and Judo; and Japanese Music.
In City Park, visitors were able to find a Japanese Food Tent with Cuisine for sale by area Japanese restaurants; a Japan Market with goods for sale by area vendors; Raku (Japanese pottery) Glazing Workshops; Books, Flicks and Chopsticks: Children's Cultural Workshops; Kite-building Workshops; Japanese Garden Previews; and walk-throughs of the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
Also, in the New Orleans Museum of Art, visitors were able to enjoy demonstrations of Ikebana (flower arrangement), Bonsai (miniature trees), Sado (tea ceremony), Shodo (calligraphy) and Origami (paper folding).

With half-price admission to NOMA during the festival as well as door prizes and a raffle, Japan Fest promises to be a fun, enlightening and educational experience for the whole family.
