& Formal/Semi-formal Dinner

Kicking-off our convention weekend on Friday night, the Opening Ceremonies & Formal/Semi-formal Dinner is an event where we introduce our guests, cultural VIPs and convention organizers as well as a few other things for attendees to enjoy such as prize giveaways and more surprises!

Entertainment for this year's Opening Ceremonies will be a debut performance from violinist and singer Kiki accompanied by guitarist Travis Farrar.

There wiill also be a performance by Neko Neko Host Club.

Being a Formal/semi-formal event, attendees are urged to dress in formal Asian attire.

To make your reservations, please be sure to select this event when registering. You must have a Dinner Reservation to be a part of this event.

As a reminder, GoldPass registrants have a dinner reservation included in their packages, so there is no need to make another reservation if you have a GoldPass.

What's for dinner?

This year's menu will feature World Famous New Orleans Cuisine! The menu for the dinner consists of a mixed salad, Napa Valley Chicken with Cajun Rice, and Rum Bread Pudding for dessert. Beverages are water, tea, and coffee.

An e-mail notice will be sent to all dinner registrants to make sure the dinner menu conforms to their indiviual dietary requirements. If the final plate selection does not fit your dietary needs, you will be required to let us know via your RSVP in what way it doesn't meet your needs and the hotel will make adjustments to your serving as needed. Our Dinner Liaison can be reached at dinner@mechacon.net.

MechaCon Lucky-draw

Five lucky dinner participants will be drawn at random to have the opportunity to be seated with our guests of honor for the duration of the dinner. If a participant's name is drawn and they don't wish to take part in this opportunity, his/her winning draw will become void and another participant will be randomly drawn.

What to Wear?

Considering the delightful fashion turn our semi-formal dinner has taken toward attendees wanting to wear oriental clothing, MechaCons semi-formal dinner is now a formal/semi-formal dinner. This means that Asian formal wear will be welcomed at the dinner event and is strongly urged. Following are some links that may be useful in helping you to make your experience at this event a spectacular one:

Here is a great crash-course site for those who want to know more and/or want to make their own attire: Japanese Kimono

Want to make sure you're wearing the right type of kimono? Here's an informative site about the Kimono: Japanese Lifestyle

This site has clothing categories by event: Ancient Moods

Ichiroya Flea Market

We welcome formal/semi-formal attire from all of the southeastern region of Asia (aka attire from the orient).

We want the dinner to be a classy event, so...

NO SCI-FI OR ANIME COSTUMES ALLOWED AT THE DINNER. THIS EVENT IS NOT A COSPLAY EVENT.

This includes portions of costumes. Sorry.

People wearing costumes or portions of costumes will not be admitted into the dinner.

Regular, non-Asian semi-formal attire is still perfectly acceptable as well. While we strongly urge everyone to try and dress in Asian attire, it's not absolutely necessary. For those who do not have the money to invest in the traditional garb, we ask that you keep it simple such as a black dress, or white shirt, black slacks, and a tie. There will be cultural VIPs attending the dinner as well as many pictures being taken at this event, so please do your part to keep this a wonderful aspect of MechaCons legacy.

NO JEANS WILL BE ALLOWED ADMISSION TO THE DINNER.
If you show up for the dinner in jeans, you will be turned away with no refund.

How Much is the Cost to Participate?

To attend the Opening Ceremonies & Formal/Semi-formal Dinner, there is an additional cost of $50 per person.

While this cost is included in GoldPass registrations, it is NOT INCLUDED in BasicPass or SilverPass registrations. Non GoldPass registrants must pay the extra $50 to attend the dinner event.

Any dinner attendee must be registered as a MechaCon attendee to make a reservation. Reservations MUST be purchased at time of registration.
