This year, come witness the ascension of Mechacon's Tabletop Gaming Department, as we also extend our schedule to offer a full 24 hours. Come learn a new game, like Munchkin, or Warhammer 40000, or play some Magic after dark, in our Midnight Madness Tournament, for a chance to win multiple booster boxes, and more, or come participate in an epic, unique Star Wars Meta Scenario. This year's events include, (but are not limited to):
RPG'S:
Friend of Mechacon and head of Battlefield Press, Jonathan Thompson will be stopping by to run the following games:
Full Metal Alchemist (Open Core Quick)
Fantastic World (Ubiquity System)
Sherwood (d20)
This year, Meachcon is proud to offer demos of the following card games, the always fun Munchkin, and the Japanese game King's Blood. Come, sit a spell with us and learn a new game.
Munchkin (From Steve Jackson Games)
Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run.
Admit it. You love it
This award-winning card game, designed by Steve Jackson, captures the essence of the dungeon experience... with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items. And what magic items! Don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm... or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon...
And it's illustrated by John Kovalic! Fast-playing and silly, Munchkin can reduce any roleplaying group to hysteria. And, while they're laughing, you can steal their stuff.
King's Blood (From Steve Jackson Games)
Love. Royalty. Tragedy. Will your line reign supreme?
King's Blood is a fast-paced multi-player card game. Build the family tree by arranging marriages, exiling rivals, and crowning new royalty. Match a character with a compatible member of the opposite sex, and start a new generation. Play the last family member from your hand, and you've won!
King's Blood was originally published by Fujimi Shobo in Japan, where it remains a fan favorite. Steve Jackson Games is proud to offer the authorized English translation of this fast, fun game, complete with all the beautiful original manga artwork.
CCG'S:
Mechacon shall be having tournaments for Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic:The Gathering. Also, we shall have World of Warcraft ccg content. Come show your skills and compete with your fellow con-goers for prizes and glory.
Magic: The Gathering (From Wizards of the Coast)
The Magic: The Gathering game, created by Richard Garfield, established the Trading Card Game category in 1993. Today, it continues to offer a fan base of more than 6 million players the opportunity to play both socially and competitively through leagues, tournaments and in-store events. Players embrace the competition - based entertainment that puts them in strategic control of bad-ass creatures and spells. MTG is the world's best trading card game, and we support it with our best efforts in sales, marketing and organized play.
Yu-Gi-Oh! (From Upper Deck)
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, two players face off in an all-out battle, engaging in a Match consisting of three duels. The main battles are waged between incredible monsters split into an amazing 20 types, each with their own unique skills and fighting styles. In addition, players can use Spell, set traps, change the battlefield itself, and even fuse two monsters together to form a monster of immense power!
World of Warcraft (From Upper Deck)
World of Warcraft is the most popular MMO in the world. We translated that universe to the card table, and we're confident that hardcore MMO players and CCG veterans alike won't be disappointed. We've done our best to stay true to the MMO in design, and in our CCG, players will find that Paladins are still hard to kill, while Shamans have powers relating to damage, healing, and Totems. Many aspects of the CCG's strategy will be familiar to players of the MMO.
Additionally, by playing the CCG, you can get exclusive items in the online game!
Universal Fighting System (From Fantasy Flight Games)
UFS (Universal Fighting System) pits popular adversaries together in one-on-one combat. Players can collect, customize, and compete for supremacy in the arena using their character's moves, abilites and weapons from popular video game properties.
The high level of strategy and fast-paced, hard-hitting action appeals to both casual and competitive players. UFS is a bold, in-your-face game that is not watered down for sale in the mass market. It is a hardcore game for hardcore brick-and-mortar hobby stores.
Miniatures Games:
This year Mechacon shall have open demos and scenarios for both Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. Come learn these games and listen as experienced players give tips on miniature construction, painting, and game play, all while enjoying the thrill of commanding powerful armies.
Warhammer (From Games Workshop)
The world of Warhammer is a land sundered by bitter strife and deadly conflict. Every realm and kingdom is riven by war and destruction, a battleground for mighty armies that advance to the beat of sonorous war-drums and the braying call of trumpets.
Warhammer, the game of Fantasy Battles, allows you to wage war with armies of Citadel miniatures across tabletop battlefields in the ultimate contest of strategy and skill. Each player is a general, who must choose his finest warriors, decide upon cunning battle plans and strategies and lead his followers to victory or death. Games can vary in size from small skirmishes of just a few dozen models per side, to massive clashes with literally hundreds of miniatures.
Warhammer 40K (From Games Workshop)
The aim of every person who plays Warhammer 40,000 is to pit their force of miniatures against other players across war-torn futuristic battlefields. Win or lose, all battles are entertaining challenges in which you try to out-think and out-play your opponent, taking advantage of what good luck comes your way, but ultimately relying upon sound tactics to win the day.
Mechacon's Midnight Madness:
That's right, Midnight Madness returns. Up late? Not too sure what to do? Well come pass the time with us! This year Mechacon's Midnight Madness consists of two events: On Friday, we shall have a Star Wars rpg session that is part of the Star Wars Meta-Scenario (see below). And on Saturday, we shall a Vintage Magic:The Gathering Tournament that's free to enter, gives free cards to the first eight people to sign up, and has an incredibly rich first place prize payout.
Star Wars Meta-Scenario:
Finally, last but not certainly least, we have an epic and unique Star Wars Meta-Scenario, that combine both the Star Wars Miniatures Game, and the Star Wars RPG, into a massive, week-end long gaming event.
And remember, all times are tentative, and new events might still be added, so keep checking back here for additional updates.
