J. MICHAEL TATUM is excitedly looking forward to meeting you all at this year's MechaCon!
Discovered by FUNimation warhorse and visionary ADR director Christopher Bevins, who cast him as Rikichi in 2005’s SAMURAI 7, Tatum’s inexplicable luck held long enough to see his flag hoisted on a slew of dream roles. Aside from being cast as Scar in FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: BROTHERHOOD, he is most notably recognized as Kyoya Otori in the hit English language dub of OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB.
Other characters the man still can’t believe he’s had the crazy good fortune to play include: Doumeki in XXXHOLIC, Jiro Mochizuki in BLACK BLOOD BROTHERS, Isaac Dian in BACCANO!, God Eneru in the new dub of ONE PIECE, Komui Lee in D-GRAY MAN, Dororo in SGT. FROG, and the titular loveable savage of HEROIC AGE… not to mention Lawrence in SPICE AND WOLF.
His vocal “stylings,” much to the chagrin of drama teachers everywhere, he’s sure, have also been featured in ROMEO X JULIET, SPEED GRAPHER, TRINITY BLOOD, KENICHI: THE MIGHTIEST DISCIPLE, BLACK CAT, NABARI NO OU, GHOST HUNT, SCHOOL RUMBLE, THE TOWER OF DRUAGA, AQUARION, TSUBASA: RESERVOIR CHRONICLES, SHUFFLE, SHIGURUI, GLASS FLEET, MUSHISHI, and the feature-length film VEXILLE, among many others.

EVENT UPDATE
Celebrating 25 years of ROBOTECH at MechaCon 2010! |
In 1985, American audiences were introduced to a new kind of animation. It was apparent after the first few episodes that this was no ordinary Saturday morning cartoon. This was edgier. This was Japanese animation, which later became known as anime. American audiences were drawn-in to this amazing new kind of storytelling. This brand of story telling focused on war and peace, love and hate, pain and pleasure. This was an epic so grand that it could not be contained with episodic storytelling. American animation audiences were being introduced to story arcs that spanned entire seasons. America had discovered ROBOTECH... and animation in America would never be the same.
In 2006, Robotech returned with an all-new animated feature film that continued the stories audiences had wanted to see continued for 20 years. Enter Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles. MechaCon is proud to have been the host to the first public viewing of this ground-breaking new animated film. Harmony Gold and MechaCon teamed-up in 2006 to reveal RTSC to the public by offering a charity viewing of the film, to which 100% of the proceeds went to the Salvation Army's Hurricanes Katrina and Rita recovery efforts.
MechaCon is extremely proud of our continued partnership with Harmony Gold. It is with great excitement that we can celebrate 25 Years of Robotech at MechaCon 2010! As a regular stop on the Robotech Convention Tour, MechaCon is happy to again treat ROBOTECH fans to the latest news, industry info, and goodies from Harmony Gold. If you are new to the phenomenon that is Robotech, please visit our What is ROBOTECH? page.
As a part of the tour's return to MechaCon, we are privileged to welcome back Harmony Gold Operations Coordinator Kevin McKeever and Robotech creator Carl Macek to our event as honored Industry Guests. In addition to Kevin and Carl, we are also excited to welcome the voices of Skull Squadron members Rick Hunter and Ben Dixon, Tony Oliver and Richard Epcar, as well voice veteran Ellyn Stern as featured Robotech voice actor guests!
 |
KEVIN McKEEVER is ready for his return to MechaCon!
Kevin's first official assignment in the ROBOTECH universe was as an audit of Robotech's television ratings and viewer demographics during its original run in the 1980s. Kevin's analysis of the ratings in a cost effective manner along with his years of production experience made him a natural candidate for the Robotech team.
MechaCon is excited about welcoming back this outgoing and highly approachable industry personality. With production of ROBOTECH: SHADOW RISING well underway and 2010 being the 25th Anniversary of Robotech, team MechaCon is biting at the bit to hear what ROBOTECH goodness Kevin will bring to whet fans' appetites this July.
To find out more about Kevin McKeever, please visit our Guest Page.
 |
CARL MACEK is extremely excited about returning to MechaCon to see all of you again!
In 1984, Macek began his association with Japanese animation. He worked with Harmony Gold, U.S.A. to develop the groundbreaking anime series ROBOTECH that has been credited with igniting the still growing anime movement outside of Japan.
His efforts and output have been both praised and criticized with equal zeal over the years. But one undeniable fact remains – the current acceptance and growth of Anime would certainly be different had it not been for Macek’s groundbreaking work bringing Japanese animation to the largest possible audience.
To find out more about Carl Macek, please visit our Guest Page.

MechaCon VI Officially Announced!
If you joined us at our last MechaCon, then you heard the announcement... if not, then you've probably heard the rumors. Now, it's time to make it official!
On July 16-18, 2010, Louisiana's premiere Japanese Cultural Expo and Anime Convention makes its way across Old Man River to the Crescent City! That's right.... we've moved MechaCon to New Orleans, baby!
MechaCon offers anime and mecha fans of Louisiana and neighboring states a chance to gather in a warm and friendly setting to learn more about the culture of Japan and to share in the experience that is the anime fan culture. Located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, MechaCon welcomes anime fans and Asian cultural enthusiasts across the south to join us for our sixth annual MechaCon weekend.
Located on New Orleans' world-famous Canal Street, near the banks of the Mississippi River... the New Orleans Marriott will be host to Louisiana's longest-running anime convention. Check out the wonderful accommodations offered by the New Orleans Marriott in our Accommodations section.
The 2010 event is our sixth convention and the MechaCon staff is completely dedicated to bringing you yet another spectacular convention experience in our commitment to continue evolving MechaCon to it's fullest potential. HOTEL UPDATE
Online Hotel Reservations For 2010 Now Available
|
 |
MechaCon now has an online reservations page with the New Orleans Marriott, for our 2010 event.
In conjunction with the New Orleans Marriott, we have established a page through their website where attendees can make their 2010 hotel reservations in the MechaCon room block directly. All reservations made through the page will automatically be input as a "MechaCon Room Block" room. This page can be accessed through the Accommodations section of our website, or can be accessed directly here.
Be sure to make your hotel reservations early! Last year, the Hilton Lafayette was SOLD-OUT well before the convention weekend. While the New Orleans Marriott is a much larger hotel, the block of rooms available at the MechaCon rate are limited. Don't be one of those stuck without a room this year!
We also ask that anyone who has already made reservations with the Marriott to double-check their reservations with the hotel to be sure their reservation has been applied the MechaCon rate. If not, we ask that you please cancel your existing reservation and re-reserve your stay as part of the MechaCon room block.
Reservations made in the MechaCon room block at the New Orleans Marriott will help to ensure that MechaCon is able to continue each year, so it is vitally important that your reservations be made as a part of the MechaCon block.
Lastly, to ensure that MechaCon receives credit for all MechaCon reservations made at the New Orleans Mariott, we ask for your assistance. If you have, or once you have, reserved a room at the New Orleans Marriott in the MechaCon room block, please e-mail us here with the name the room is reserved under, along with the number of nights you have reserved. This list of names will be double-checked with the New Orleans Marriott to assure that MechaCon reservations are all accounted for. |

CONVENTION UPDATE
Thanks to all who attended MechaCon V!
|
|
We'd like to thank all attendees, staff, volunteers, and participants that made MechaCon V a huge success!
We want to send out our most heartfelt thanks to every single person that was at MechaCon this year. Without all of the wonderful attendees, volunteers, artists, dealers, panel presenters, staff, and industry supporters, we could not pull together this event that is near and dear to our hearts, and keeps growing year after year. Every single one of you is an important ingredient in the mix that is MechaCon, and we appreciate all of you immensely! We had a great convention year, despite the crowding. Thanks for being patient as we grow, and for helping us to continue to improve through trial and error. Next year, it'll be a whole new ballgame when we move MechaCon to New Orleans!
 |
Our annual Charity Auction to benefit Faith House was a huge success this year. With your help, we managed to raise $2,443.00 for the local crisis shelter for women and children! In addition, our Ouran High School raffle at the formal ball brought it $418, making our total 2009 charity fund raising a whopping $2,861! Thanks so much to each of you that generously bid and to those who donated to the auction.
We were all moved by the generous bids received at the auction. As part of the Charity Auction, we raffled our 2010 Platinum Pass, which raised $1,000 alone.
Our congratulations to Justin Allemand
for winning our 2010 Platinum Pass!
Thanks again to all who participated! It was definitely for a great cause.
