    COSPLAY CONTEST GRAND PRIZE ANNOUNCED!

This information is HOT off the press! This year for DESTINTION, we will be offering a CASH PRIZE for our BEST IN SHOW at our Cosplay Contest! That’s right. A cash prize!! Money! Dollars! The green stuff! Once we get some more pre-registered passes, we will announce how much the Grand Prize will be! So, if you haven’t pre-registered yet, NOW is the time!

rules and details on the cosplay contest are as follows

Thank you for showing interest in the 2014 DESTINATION Cosplay Contest! Here is everything you will need to know in order to qualify and compete.
    Cosplay Contest RULES
Entry forms for the cosplay contest will be available at the registration desk. If entering as a group, please only fill out 1 form for the entire group. Forms are to be returned to the information desk prior to prejudging. Check the schedule for prejudging & contest time. If you miss prejudging, you may still walk on stage, but are not eligible for any awards. There is a limited amount of time and therefore, a limited amount of entries that will be allowed, so make sure to sign up at registration early instead of last minute!
    1. Reference pictures are highly suggested for judging. They are not mandatory, but without reference pictures, costumers may not be able to compete for accuracy awards.
    2. Original designs are allowed, but anime, video games, and any Japan related cosplays will have first priority in the case the maximum for entries is met. Original designs either must be 80% made by wearer or have a reference picture to enter.
    3. Both made costumes and found/pieced together costumes may be entered into the contest. At least 80% of a costume needs to be made by the wearer for it to be considered made. (Example: Sewing a dress for your costume but then buying accessories and shoes would still qualify it as over 80% made by the entrant.)
    4. SKIT Submission Rules: Skits will be allowed only at the discretion of the judges and if time permits. Skits must be under 2 minutes or it will be disqualified.
Please read all the rules carefully before entering.
    ● You may only submit one (1) skit per group.
    ● You must email the skit/music/sounds you are using so that we may view it for approval PLEASE EMAIL SUBMISSIONS to [email protected]
    ● When sending your submission, please include a description of the skit, if you will be doing anything special on stage, or any special needs you may have.
    ● You may send a MP3, WAV, AVI, MPG, or MPEG file of your music/skit. No other types will be accepted.
    ● You will be notified of your skit approval and email confirmation.
    ● There will NOT be enough microphones for everyone. Plan accordingly and either prerecord or think about how well your voice will carry.
    ● Please also bring a hard copy of your skit/music/sound file with you to the convention as a backup. (CD or flash Drive)
    ● You MAY NOT send in your performance to us in the mail.
    ● You must perform the same skit at the convention that you sent in. No substitutions are allowed
    ● All skits MUST be PG13.

Judges will consider several factors when judging your skit. Was it original? Funny? Did it make sense if you have not seen the series? Was it repetitive or boring? Were there too many inside jokes? Ask yourself a few of those questions and it might help you improve your skit, or you can always try performing your skit for a few friends to see what they think! Good Luck!!!
    5. Contestants can only enter in one category, Individual or Group.
    6. Keep everything at PG13 or under. No profanity allowed on stage. That includes messages on signs or clothes. Anyone who breaks this rule will be disqualified and possibly asked to leave the convention.
    7. The guide line for modesty of a costume is a conservative bikini. If you are unsure, ask on the Facebook page about any specific outfits for the cosplay contest.
8.THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED ONSTAGE:
    ∙ open flame
    ∙ flash powder/paper
    ∙ lasers (pens, sites, etc)
∙ messy substances (i.e. fake blood, silly string)
    ∙ strobe effects
    ∙ projectiles of any nature
    ∙ nudity
∙ any other potentially dangerous or illegal item
    9. If costumes are not self contained, the wearer may bring a handler, but the convention will not provide anyone.
    10. Skill categories will be taken into consideration while judging, but awards are not divided into skill categories. They are as follows:
    - Youth: Anyone 12 and under that made their own costume.
    - Novice: A contestant with no more than one win in a costume contest.
    - Journeyman: A contestant who has won between 25 costume awards
    - Master: A contestant who has won at least 5 awards.
    Cosplay Contest Awards
These are potential awards, if no one qualifies for the category or there are not enough entries, not all awards will be given out.
Best In Show: Highest award, best overall.
Runner Up for Best In Show 2nd best overall.
Best Group: Best 2 or more cosplayers.
Best Technical Costume: Must be made by at least 80% made by wearer.
Best Prop: Prop has to be made by cosplayer using it.
Best skit: Skits must be under 2 minutes or it will be disqualified.
Best Character Likeness: You must have a reference picture to compete for this. Both costumes made and pieced together are able to compete for this award.
Judges Awards: To be given out at judges discretion.

How about lifetime membership and free hotel stay? Take a look at our funding tiers to see all the perks we’re offering! Every little bit of money helps, and there are great perks for you at every level.

All funds received-regardless of how much funding we raise-will go directly into the above-mentioned content. You may now be asking, “Which guests are going to be brought in?” Over the course of the campaign, we will announce the new additions to our lineup.

    So What’s the Dilemma?
Conventions are our passion. We eat, sleep, and breathe them, spending the bulk of our work hours developing new concepts and ways to improve your convention experience. However great our planning is, though, first requires substantial funding. Convention organization requires an immense amount of time, resources, and capital. The costs associated with running a single event can quickly become staggering, and Sukoshi Con produces at least 4 per year.

That old adage, “It takes money to make money,” is certainly true in our line of work. To pay for guests/advertising/venue, we need money. To make money, we need attendees. To get attendees, we need guests/advertising/venue. Additionally, conventions receive the majority of their revenue day-of-show, while the majority of expenses are incurred before the event even happens. Suddenly, convention planning can become a vicious cycle of finance juggling. Our budget decides EVERYTHING. With your contributions, we can plan in peace, free from the worries of budget restraints.

IMPORTANT UPDATES FOR DESTINATION ANIME PLEASE READ

Due to the changing landscape in the Florida Panhandle convention circuit, Destination Anime will be changing to a SUMMER convention in 2015.

Sukoshi Con Chairman James Carroll comments, “New conventions are emerging, old ones are returning, others are relocating to the area, with all operating around 4th Quarter, and winter months. We believe moving to the Summer will prove beneficial to everyone by giving attendees more options throughout the year and alleviating oversaturation of the market.”
Destination Anime 2014 will still be held in January at the Emerald Coast Convention Center, but will change from a 3-day event to a 1-day event on Saturday, January 4th, 2014. Confirmed guests include Voice Actor Blake Shepard (Air Gear, Angel Beats) and Cosplay guest Jessie Pridemore. The official convention hotel rate will remain $54.99 per night. Ticket prices are $20.00 pre-reg through January 1st, and $30.00 at door.
All pre-reg tickets purchased above $20.00 will be given a refund of the difference. Sukoshi Con will also offer a full refund for attendees wishing to cancel. Vendors will receive 50% off booth space. Artist Alley pricing will remain unchanged.
For all general inquiries pertaining to Destination Anime, please email [email protected].

    GUEST CANCELLATION - Monika Lee

In light of unforeseen academic obligations, Monika Lee will be unable to attend Destination Anime 2014. She extends her apologies regarding her scholastic duties to attendees. Fans in the Panhandle still wishing to see Monika Lee can see her at Anime South on December 27th-29th, 2013 in Pensacola, FL. We will announce a new cosplay guest in her stead shortly.
